A principios de la d\u00e9cada de 1960, la banda gan\u00f3 popularidad en Cuba, lanzando varios \u00e1lbumes a nivel nacional y en los mercados de la m\u00fasica latina estadounidense . Disfrutaron de un \u00e9xito particular en Curazao y Aruba, que realizaron una gira en 1960. Despu\u00e9s del lanzamiento de su primer \u00e1lbum, Fiesta cubana (1960), Rivera fue reemplazado por Papi Oviedo, que grab\u00f3 principalmente en un tres amplificado.
